Smart Sensing of Forging Operation via Tonnage Signature Analysis Report Available

Tonnage signal analysis provides rich information about forging process operating conditions, and has the potential to predict part quality for achieving intelligent forging process control. In a research project funded by FIERF, a research team consisting of Professor Judy Jin and her students from the University of Michigan, and Dr. Andreas Sterzing, Mr. Jurgen Steger and Mr. Tim Lehnert from IWU of Fraunhofer Institute, conducted experimental studies investigate how three typical variables, e.g. workpiece geometry, part temperature and hydraulic ram off-center error, affect tonnage signals.
